Required Criteria for Maharatna Status:-
- Companies should get Navratna status.
- The company should be listed on the Indian Stock Exchange under the regulators of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) with a minimum prescribed public shareholding.
- The average annual turnover during the last three years should be more than Rs 25,000 crore.
- The average annual net worth in the last three years should be more than Rs 15,000 crore.
- The average annual net profit for the last three years should be more than Rs 5,000 crore.
- Companies should have a significant presence in the international market in the area of business.
Benefits of Maharatna Status:
- The granting of Maharatna status will increase the autonomy and operational power of these companies, as well as give them the freedom to make all decisions related to financial matters.
- Companies with Maharatna status can invest through equity in financial joint ventures and wholly-owned subsidiaries.
- Maharatna companies can merge and acquire with domestic and foreign companies up to 15% of their total assets and with an absolute limit of Rs 5000 crore.
- The boards of Maharatna companies can prepare plans relating to personnel and human resource management and training.
