  • After India became independent on 15 August 1947, the country did not have a strong constitution and the governance system was running on the basis of the Government of India Act 1935.
  • A drafting committee was constituted on 28 August 1947 under the chairmanship of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar for the creation of a new and strong constitution in the country.
  • After this, after tireless efforts of 2 years 11 months 18 days, a strong and world's largest constitution was formed in the country on 24 January 1950, which was fully implemented on 26 January 1950. To mark this day every year 26 January is celebrated as Republic Day of India.

9. The country's highest civilian honor Padma Award 2022 was announced:-

  • This year the President has approved the conferment of 128 Padma Awards including 2 couple cases (in a couple cases, the award is counted as one) as per the list below.
  • The list includes 4 Padma Vibhushan, 17 Padma Bhushan and 107 Padma Shri awards.
  • 34 of the awardees are women and the list also includes 10 persons from the category of Foreigners/NRIs/PIOs/OCIs and 13 posthumous awardees.
  • Padma Awards - one of the highest civilian awards of the country, are conferred in three categories, namely Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri.
  • Awards are given in various disciplines/areas of activities, such as arts, social work, public affairs, science and engineering, trade and industry, medicine, literature and education, sports, civil service, etc.
  • Padma Vibhushan is awarded for exceptional and distinguished service.
  • 'Padma Bhushan' for distinguished service of a high order
  • and 'Padma Shri' for distinguished service in any field.
  • The awards are announced every year on the occasion of Republic Day (26 January).
  • These awards are presented by the President of India in ceremonial ceremonies which are usually held at Rashtrapati Bhavan around March/April every year.
